Lobero Theatre Building’s Centennial
The Lobero Theatre Building’s Centennial on August 10th is a monumental celebration of a hundred years of history at one of Santa Barbara’s most iconic venues. This free Community Outdoor Block Party invites the community to join in the festivities, commemorating the theatre's rich legacy with live performances by acclaimed bands featuring Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Ozomatli on August 10, 3 PM – 7 PM.
Originally established as Jose Lobero’s Opera House in 1873, the Lobero Theatre faced neglect by 1922, prompting the newly formed Lobero Theatre Company to commission renowned architects George Washington Smith and Lutah Maria Riggs to redesign the theater, which was completed in 1924. Riggs is credited with the interior design, including the exquisite ceiling panels and Spanish-inspired columns, while Smith's exterior Spanish Colonial Revival design became synonymous with the "Santa Barbara look" following the town's devastating 1925 earthquake. Surviving as one of the few buildings standing, the Lobero influenced the design of numerous new constructions. A century later, this iconic venue has been honored as one of Architectural Digest’s "11 Most Beautiful Theaters in the World."

This special event offers visitors a firsthand glimpse into the diverse facets of local farming life. Wander through lush fields and orchards, where farmers eagerly share their expertise and passion for sustainable agriculture. Engage in guided tours highlighting the intricate processes behind growing crops and raising livestock, gaining insights into the region's agricultural heritage.
Indulge your senses with tastings of freshly harvested produce, artisanal cheeses, and locally crafted goods, showcasing the flavors unique to Santa Barbara County. Families can delight in interactive activities designed to entertain and educate, from petting zoos and tractor rides to workshops on organic gardening and farm-to-table cooking. Show your appreciation for local farming traditions, connect with the land, and support the community's commitment to sustainable agriculture.
Santa Barbara Triathlon
Experience the thrill and beauty of the Santa Barbara Long Course Triathlon on August 24th as athletes tackle one of the country's most picturesque and demanding courses. The event kicks off with a refreshing swim at East Beach, where competitors dive into the sparkling waters of the Pacific Ocean. Participants then transition to a scenic bike ride that winds through the stunning landscapes of Santa Barbara, Montecito, and Carpinteria, offering sweeping views of the coastline and foothills.
After conquering the bike course, athletes will lace up their running shoes for a beachfront run along Santa Barbara's iconic shoreline. The final stretch tests their endurance, with breathtaking ocean views as inspiration. It's an event that embodies the spirit of Santa Barbara—a blend of fitness, outdoor adventure, and community celebration against the backdrop of California's stunning Central Coast.
