About One805
On January 9, 2018, the Montecito community was forever changed by a devastating mudflow that claimed 23 lives and destroyed hundreds of homes. In the aftermath, it became clear that the first responders—firefighters, police officers, and rescue teams—who risked their lives to save others—needed support. That’s when One805 was formed.
The Santa Barbara-based nonprofit is committed to providing ongoing support for first responders in our region. In addition to coordinating fundraising community events like “Rock for First Responders,” the organization makes direct donations of equipment and resources to enhance the safety and well-being of local heroes while ensuring our first responders have the tools, resources, and emotional support they need to remain safe and healthy while serving the community.
One805’s contributions include purchasing life-saving equipment, funding training programs, and offering financial assistance to families of injured responders. An often-overlooked area of focus is mental health, which is a priority for One805. The nonprofit advocates for and funds initiatives that promote mental wellness, including therapy services and peer counseling for first responders coping with PTSD and burnout.
One805’s dedication was evident during the recent wildfire disasters in Los Angeles. The nonprofit deployed approximately 20 strike teams to provide support. These teams operated tirelessly in hazardous conditions, demonstrating their expertise and commitment to assisting others. This aid helped local fire crews manage one of the most devastating fire seasons in recent memory. Many of these firefighters labored continuously for weeks during the recent wildfires as part of the mutual aid system, aiding in the protection of lives and property in neighboring communities.

Why This Event Matters
First responders are the unsung heroes of our community. They dedicate themselves to responding to fires, natural disasters, and emergencies. However, their mental health challenges often go unseen. Long hours, dangerous conditions, and the emotional toll of their work can lead to burnout, stress, and trauma.
“The funds will be allocated to our mental wellness program in Santa Barbara County, and we will also ensure that first responders in Los Angeles County are included,” explains Kirsten Cavendish Weston-Smith, Co-Founder, Chairman, and CEO. “Since our first responders consistently collaborate and depend on each other, their mental wellness is a priority. L.A. supports us, and we support L.A. It’s a partnership that saves lives. By funding mental wellness initiatives, we guarantee our first responders have the resources they need to continue serving our communities effectively."
Events like “Rock for First Responders” embody the incredible sense of community that makes Santa Barbara such a unique and welcoming place.
