Who is Warren Buffett?
An American business magnate, investor, speaker and philanthropist, Warren Buffett is considered one of the most successful investors in the world. Today, he has a net worth of $89.9 billion, making him the third wealthiest person in the world. Mr. Buffett has been the chairman and largest shareholder of Berkshire Hathaway since 1970. He is referred to as the Wizard, Oracle, or Sage of Omaha by global media outlets and is noted for his adherence to value investing, and for his personal frugality despite his immense wealth.
A student of Benjamin Graham, widely considered to be the godfather of value investing, Mr. Buffett still follows the advice of the man whose teachings have inspired a generation of value investors. Graham is known as the man who revolutionized the way we think about investing today.
“The basic ideas of investing are to look at stocks as business, use the market’s fluctuations to your advantage, and seek a margin of safety,” says Mr. Buffett. “That’s what Ben Graham taught us. A hundred years from now they will still be the cornerstones of investing.”
Mr. Buffett is also a notable philanthropist, having pledged to give away 99% of his fortune to philanthropic causes, primarily via the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He founded The Giving Pledge in 2009 with Bill Gates, whereby billionaires pledge to give away at least half of their fortunes.
