Are you curious to learn about what new home buyers are looking for today in the real estate market? According to a recent survey by the National Association of Home Builders, “convenience, livability and energy efficiency” top the list but there are other practical and functional amenities that can be key selling points as well.
“Newly constructed homes can suit the specific requirements of today’s home buyers,” said NAHB Chairman Kevin Kelly, a home builder and developer from Wilmington, Del. “And now is a great time to consider buying a new home, as consumers can take advantage of competitive home prices and low interest rates to find the perfect new home for their families.”
Here’s a list of the features that home builders are including in a typical single-family home this year:
- walk-in closet in the master bedroom
- low-E windows
- laundry room and
- great room
- granite countertops
- kitchen double sink
- central island in the kitchen
- linen closet
- private toilet in the bathroom
- first-floor ceilings at least nine-feet high
- front porch
- outdoor lighting
When getting your home ready to sell, think energy efficiency, including Energy-Star rated appliances, programmable thermostats and Energy-Star rated windows. For more ideas, just consider what features you appreciate that make your home more comfortable. Comfort is key in today’s real estate marketplace.
Keep in mind, the process of selling your home may take longer than expected, especially if you don’t have the right agent. I recommend you get your home inspected first to immediately take care of any unseen major repairs. Create a space where potential buyers can see themselves living in by de-cluttering. Finally, experts say this real estate cycle may be shorter-lived than last so don’t wait to list your home.
