Do you know what’s hot and what’s not in interior decorating for 2018?
According to Zillow, here are five design trends you’ll be seeing more of this year, and three to kiss goodbye, especially if one of your New Year’s resolutions is to sell your home.
Trending in 2018
- Floral prints
Think floral prints in bold, contrasting colors. That’s what experts predict will make a big comeback this year, particularly on large billowing fabrics, like drapery, as well as chairs and throw pillows.
- Statement floors
Forget statement walls — 2018 will be about statement floors. For ideas, check out my former blog on 4 types of flooring that really make any room. They’re a great way to make a small room pop, without adding clutter.
- Light wood cabinets
Today’s Homebuyers are gravitating toward medium and light wood cabinets. I don’t blame them. Natural element wood cabinets make every space feel more inviting.
- Warm Neutrals
We’re talking warm reds, caramel browns, soft beige, moodier color palettes, both on walls and in artwork, will be popular in 2018.
- Matte metal hardware
Think about matte metal when it comes to drawer pulls and light fixtures. Homeowners are moving away from shiny silver- or gold-accented kitchen hardware that can make the space feel cold.
2017 fads to forget
- All-white kitchens
Experts say we’ll see more color in kitchens next year, especially among homeowners who are planning to sell. Consider this: Zillow data shows homes with blue kitchens sell for $1,800 more than homes with white kitchens.
- Bar Carts
Think about it, bar carts not used every day, can take up prime space and collect dust. Before you get rid of yours, think coffee cart: equally trendy, but far more practical.
Succulents are easy to care for, but in 2018 experts say to consider incorporating other plant varieties into your home. Perhaps a palm or hearty fiddle-leaf fig.
I hope this list of “what’s hot and what’s not” helps you make the right decisions when it comes to interior decorating for 2018.
