5 NEW, INTELLIGENT GADGETS YOU’LL WANT TO PURCHASE
A plethora of the best smart home devices was unveiled at the 2019 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this year. That’s the annual trade show, organized by the Consumer Technology Association and held every January in Las Vegas. The show has served as the proving ground for innovators and breakthrough technologies for the last 50 years. This year was no exception as the world’s business leaders and pioneering thinkers unveiled many new intelligent devices including these 5 that everyone’s going to be talking about (and buying):
- LG OLED TV R
Owners of homes with a clean, modern aesthetic listen up! I just learned about the most talked-about smart home device from this year’s conference: the LG OLED TV R. This TV features a 4K, organic LED smart screen. That’s nothing new. But there’s one very unique feature that will make this one of the best smart home devices. That feature? It’s rollable. We’re talking a display that ascends and descends from a Dolby Atmos speaker. With a simple voice command, the substantial soundbar will turn into a sleek and stylish coffee table. The top-of-the-line, futuristic TV is both Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa compatible. The television offers six different modes: Music, Clock, Frame, Mood, Lighting, Home Dashboard. Available this Spring.
- Mui Smart Display
Another on the list of best smart home devices unveiled at CES this year is the Mui Smart Display: truly a minimalist’s dream. It’s designed to look like a simple piece of wood, but it’s much, much more than that. That wood plank is a touch-sensitive smart home hub. And that hub is capable of displaying weather, time and temperature info as well as Spotify playlists, text messages, even voicemails. Thanks to the Google Assistant built into the device, homeowners can receive their requested info via a display on the wood. Hang it on your wall and receive or send texts. In fact, Mui owners can make the most of their new device by leveraging IFTTT that is designed to not look like much. The Mui Smart Display started with a Kickstarter campaign last September so those who backed the product will get the first units. The rest of us can order the hub now for $549 at Indiegogo InDemand. But you’ll have to wait until November to receive your smart piece of wood.
- KitchenAid Smart Display
Those who already have a video-screen-equipped home hub know their device can do some serious service in the kitchen. But they also know that the kitchen is a dangerous room for sensitive electronics. KitchenAid to the rescue! The company, which is celebrating its 100th year in 2019, has created a video-enabled smart speaker built specifically for kitchens. This 10-inch touchscreen device features an IPX5-level water resistance. That means you won’t have to worry about your KitchenAid Smart Display. Instead, you can just marvel about how helpful it is. This device is also equipped with Google Assistant, so users can control it with simple voice commands. You can also watch anything from YouTube and Hulu, to HBO. Or perhaps you want to put on one of your favorite cooking shows to prepare a new yummy dish for your family. You can also use it to control other smart home devices, like lighting, heating or AC; just about anything smart control, you have set up. The cost will be between $200 and $300 and it’s expected to be available in the second half of this year.
- Numi 2.0
Are you interested in a smart toilet? Good thing you waited because the world’s most advanced toilet will be available in late 2019. The sequel from Kohler promises a “fully immersive experience.” Not that much has changed. The stylish loo’s automated lid, seat and feet warmers, Bluetooth-syncing built-in speakers, multiple bidet functions and dynamic ambient panel lighting will stay the same. So, what’s new? What more could one need from a toilet? You will be able to talk to the Numi 2.0. Yes, you read that correctly. The newest alliteration of the clever commode comes with Alexa built in. That gives users the ability to control the Numi’s many advanced features, as well as their other Kohler Konnect devices via voice command. But you’ll have to wait to get yours until later this year. The Numi 2.0 is priced at $7,000 for white and $8,000 for black.
What do you get when you combine love with a robot? The answer is simple: Lovot, an artificially intelligent automaton, or robot, designed with the goal of making its owners happy, as well as making it one of 2019’s best smart home devices. It looks sort of like a Teletubby. But this robot does more than sing and dance. It’s designed to wheel around your home and react to your moods. Feeling down? Lovot will do its damnedest to lift your mood. This fuzzy manufactured device seeks it’s owner’s affection. It asks to be held and cuddled and will actually fall asleep in your arms. All this thanks to Emotional Robotics. How can you refuse those large adoring eyes and the unit’s disarming digital dialogue? Reserve your Lovot now, although it won’t be available until September of 2020. The cost? A mere $3,215 (for one) or $5,508 (for two). Personally, I think I’ll just get all that love and affection from my rescue dogs!
