Nestled between the Santa Ynez Mountains and the sparkling Pacific Ocean sits the community of Montecito (zip code 93108), boasting some of the most spectacular and expensive real estate in the United States. The community is consistently ranked by Forbes as one of the wealthiest communities in the United States. Residents include a number of A-list celebrities including Oprah Winfrey, Rob Lowe, Ellen DeGeneres, Drew Barrymore and Eric Schmidt.
Montecito was originally inhabited more than over 10,000 years ago by the Chumash Indians. The Spanish arrived in the 18th century, but left the region largely unsettled while they built the Presidio and Mission Santa Barbara farther west.
In the middle of the 19th century the area became a haven for bandits and highway robbers hiding in the oak groves and canyons, preying on the coastal route traffic between the towns that developed around the missions. Italian settlers replaced the bandit gangs by the end of the 1860s. They found the area reminiscent of their native country and built farms and gardens similar to those they had left behind in Italy. Montecito became popular with wealthy tourists who bought land around the end of the 19th century. It seemed like the perfect location: close enough to Santa Barbara for essential services while still maintaining its secluded vibe. Plus, the desirable weather and nearby hot springs offered the promise of comfortable, healthy living.
If you are looking for a place that is comfortable, yet secluded offering healthy living at its best, then Montecito might be the perfect place for you and your family to relocate. Peruse all the 93108 area code listings on my website, then give me a call at 805-886-9378.
